Welcome to the College of the Canyons Art Gallery’s 25th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition submission portal! This competitive juried art exhibition honors outstanding COC student artists for their creativity and hard work.

We are delighted to invite you to submit your artwork to be considered for this exciting exhibition! Works selected for the exhibition will be displayed in the College of the Canyon’s Main Art Gallery in Mentry Hall on the Valencia Campus and presented on our website.

WHAT IS A JURIED EXHIBITION?
All artwork entered undergoes two rounds of jurying. The first round is for inclusion in the exhibition. Artworks will be judged and selected by an outside art-world professional serving as the Exhibition Juror. This process, called “jurying” is a common selection process for creating exhibitions by competitive entry. In our show, the Exhibition Juror’s choices are not based on a set theme or criteria; but rather the Exhibition Juror evaluates artwork based on the strength of the artist's ideas and the realization of that idea in the artwork. The COC Art Gallery invites artists and curators from the wider Southern California community to serve as our Exhibition Juror, and we pick a new Exhibition Juror every year.

Once selected for inclusion in the exhibition, works undergo a second round of jurying to be considered for the Merit Awards and/or our Student Art Collection Awards. The second round is juried by our Student Exhibition Awards Selection Committee. This committee is made up of COC faculty, staff, and administrators; as well as representatives from the Foundation Patrons of the Arts.

AWARDS

Merit Awards are $250
These awards were established in 2021 to recognize the creative achievements and dedication of College of the Canyons student artists. Works awarded in this category will be retained by the artist.

Student Art Collection Awards ($500)
Our Student Art Collection (SAC) is a historic collection of remarkable artworks created by students at the college. Established in 2010, art works in the SAC are purchased by the college and displayed publicly in College of the Canyons buildings. These works of art, selected by a campus-wide committee, serve to enhance and energize our public spaces and help create a cohesive record of excellence in the visual arts by COC students. Students who choose to have their artwork considered for this award must understand that their art, if selected, becomes the property of the College of the Canyons. Artists will however maintain copyright of their images. (Please read Terms and Conditions for further information.)

We are grateful for the generous support of the College of the Canyons Foundation Patrons of the Arts for making the Merit and SAC awards possible!

SECOND: Artists then deliver the actual artwork, “ready to exhibit” (more on that below) to the College of the Canyons Art Gallery. Gallery Hours are: Tuesday – Thursday between 10am – 4:00pm.

The digital images of the artwork and the actual works of art must be uploaded/delivered by April 28, 2022 at 2:00 pm in order to be considered for exhibition. Incomplete entries cannot be considered.

Each artwork will be a unique submission. You may submit up to three (3) separate artworks, which will be judged independently.

There is no fee to enter your work.
Work in a series (a diptych or triptych, for example) may be submitted as one entry. Please explain your concept of how all the images work together to make a single piece in the artwork description field.

Take the most professional images of your work that you can! You are an artist, and you want your work to be communicated as professionally as possible online. All images must be a close reproduction of the actual work.

Please crop and color correct images before submitting. These images will be used to represent your artwork on our website, so turn in the best images possible.

We thank you for your participation, however, your submission is not a guarantee of inclusion in the exhibition. The Distinguished Juror will make final selections of works to be included in the exhibition.

MAKING YOUR ARTWORK “EXHIBITION READY":
2D works on paper should be neatly matted and/or framed for exhibition. Frames need not be expensive. Ikea and second-hand stores often have reasonably priced options.

PAINTINGS must be dry.

3D works need to be stable enough in their construction that they can withstand being exhibited for the entire exhibition.

Video and digital works selected for exhibition will need to be submitted on a USB.
